Supplies
- 1 16″ balloon
- 1 newspaper
- 1 can Great Stuff Expanding Insulation Foam
- 1 can of Gray Spray Paint (primer)
- 1 can of Green Spray Paint (final coat)
- 1 big tub of home-made paper mache’ mix (50% flour, 50% warm water)
- (Use an egg-beater to mix thoroughly, if it has an oatmeal cookie smell, you got it right.)
- Lay down newspaper everywhere, on the table, under the table, around the table, this gets a bit messy.
- Rip the newspapers into 3″ x 3″ or 4″ x 4″ squares. (I have found this to be the optimum size)
- Mix the paper mache mix in a giant tub.
The Build
Build The Paper Mache Base
Blow up the balloon and place the wider end on a Tupperware bowl to keep it upright.
Dip the newspaper into the paper mache mix and squeeze out the excess between two fingers and place on the balloon in an overlapping fashion.
Place on a second layer so that each piece of paper overlaps the edge of two previous pieces.
Remove the Tupperware bowl and build up a ‘nest’ of paper mache’ around the base of the egg to keep it upright. It helps of there is a second person holding the egg as you build the ‘nest’

Apply The Texture
After the paper mache’ hardened, I cut an 8″ X in the top and open the top flower style.
Then I used GREAT STUFF foam insulation to cover the whole thing.
WAIT 24 HOURS FOR GREAT STUFF TO HARDEN
Peel off all newspaper that is sticking to the great stuff.
Add The Paint
I then painted the whole thing with grey primer ($1 a spray can)

I then painted the whole thing with green spray paint. ($1 a spray can)
The reason for two coats of paint is to make sure you cover any exposed area’s of newspaper and to get every square inch of the egg. Usually 1 can of spray paint can barely cover one egg.
For the Face Hugger, that was a toy purchased from Toys-R-Us at about $9.99 each.
